This outfit looked to me like a sleek jacket over a dress but I’m not completely sure. Either way, it looks great and I love how the arms don’t reach the wrist. Female hands are softer than male ones and even just showing our wrist give for a completely different look than when it’s covered.
Looking on the list of power women, I felt it’d be appropriate to talk about Indra Nooyi as she’s the first woman of color on the list after Michelle Obama, who we all already know so much about! I’ll probably cover her later but I wanted to put Indra in the spotlight first.
Nooyi brings a new element of identity and culture to what she wears. Because of her Indian heritage, she incorporates elements of traditional Indian dress with the usual suit. She also adds color to her suits via bright scarves which look fantastic especially with her brown skin tone. Let’s have a look at how Nooyi wears professionalism!
Nooyi not only uses the blazer over dress combo, but she takes it as far as to wear an orange blazer over her black dress. Not only does it look fantastic, but it separates her from the stream of darkly-suited men and positively highlights her femininity as well.
Here Nooyi is suited in traditional Indian garb. Standing next to a fully suited man, we can see that contrary to what you might think, it does not look strange or unprofessional at all. She looks beautiful and carries herself in a way that could definitely be taken seriously.
This is one of my favorite pieces. Nooyi combines the idea of a suit jacket with the colors and patterns one might see in cultural clothing. That results in a timeless piece that’s easy to wear and looks like a BOSS.
This outfit is more traditional; it’s a suit with a pink button down. The pink does a great job of adding color and adding a touch of softness to the rigidity of the male suit.
This is another jacketed suit that I really love; the threading and fabric of this material is fantastic for cold winter/fall days and the use of pearls makes the outfit not too overbearing due to its inherent sharpness.
Dress, belt, colorful scarf – it’s the best of all worlds. The v-cut on the dress makes it look very executive. The exposure of her arms make it feminine. Her smile makes it beautiful.
